Tripled on Sailfish & the BEST tasting bottom fish!
This week at Gale Force Fishing we had a great variety of species biting! Within the first hour of Monday’s trip we tripled on sailfish while kite fishing out of Pompano Beach Florida! It’s always fun to teach anglers how to hook and catch their own fish from the kite. We used goggle eyes on our long baits, rigged with wire, and herring on our mid and short baits, using mono. While we have the kite set up we also drift a bottom rig and frequently catch sharks, amberjacks and a variety of snappers that way; also on Monday we were able to catch an amberjack on our bottom rig that we released after a few pictures!
The following day we went kite fishing again on Gale Force, our 32’ Intrepid. We travelled North of the Hillsboro Inlet and drifted the boat side sea with our sea anchor out. We put two kites out, each with two baits, all of the baits were bridled and fished with wire as there are lot of toothy critters around. The sailfish bite was slow while the hammerhead bite was excellent! We had two juvenile hammerheads eat our mid baits on the right kite. Both are a fun and long fight, catching trophy sharks will test an anglers endurance! We also had a kingfish eat our goggle eye on the left long bait which we gaffed right by the boat and kept to cook some smoked kingfish dip.
Later in the week the full moon began to rise and really slow the kite fishing bite down. To change things up we spent a day deep dropping for tilefish, vermillion snappers, and Blackfin snapper! Tilefish is an excellent tasting fish, commonly compared to lobster or stone crab when it comes to texture and flavor!
