Artist Spotlight: Ryan A. Troisi
“There are no rules, no limits and a freedom that does not account for time nor space.” - Ryan A. Troisi.
We love working with artists to bring life to our Gale Force Gear apparel. We want each item to have purpose and be more than just “merch”. We recently partnered with Ryan A. Troisi to create pieces of art and add dimension to our apparel. Ryan is an American artist that uses his life trials as inspiration to create pieces of artwork. Although, he hasn’t been fishing in a long time, Ryan has fond memories as a little boy when his father would buy a season pass for the reservoir to fish off the docks in New Jersey. His favorite memories from those fishing trips weren’t about the fishing but more about the time spent bonding with family.
Ryan started painting about 12 years ago when he saw an artist on the internet that painted sneakers. He was so inspired by the technique that he gave it a try himself. Using what knowledge he had from drawing and art class as a child, Ryan then painted his own pair of Vans. After posting a picture of his shoes to Facebook, he gained quite a bit of traction and next thing he knew, Ryan was taking custom orders.
As Ryan’s painting progressed, he wanted to express himself more, “I slowly put the sneakers down and went to original paintings on canvas. Which is my current medium. I love the openness of a blank canvas. The ability to move paint in larger areas of expression. There are no rules, no limits and a freedom that does not account for time nor space. It is a place for me I am able to take off to with infinite landing points. From here I wish to grow my paintings piece by piece, continue to harness my creativity and keep the hunger within my soul”.
Last fall Gale Force Gear launched it’s first piece from Ryan, the Splatter Mahi, offered in mens, women and youth UPF wear. This year we collaborated with Ryan on a new species…the elusive wahoo. Our UPF performance wear is designed to keep you cool, dry and protected for long days on the water. Visit DoneByRat.com to view more of Ryan’s pieces or shop the collaboration here.
